Automatic irrigation systems are the better way to water

When you have a large yard with a lot of flower beds watering can be a chore. Lugging around hoses can make your back sore and the job uninviting. Because you love your flower beds you hate to stop watering them. Isn’t there a better way to water?

Many landscapers and lawn services recommend automatic irrigation systems for large yards with lots of flower beds. Having such a system will mean no more dragging heavy hoses around. You may wonder if one of these is right for you. They are best installed by landscaping companies experienced with plants and watering. Proper layout is essential for optimal performance and low maintenance.

Not all sprinkler systems are alike. Some sprinklers sit above the ground perpetually. They can have a better watering radius, but because they stick out of the ground, these types of sprinklers are prone to being tripped over and to being destroyed by lawn mowers.

Other sprinkler systems use pop up sprinklers. These sprinklers, a friend to lawn services because they aren’t easily hit, sit flush or below ground level when not in use and pop up above the ground when the irrigation system comes on. When a pop up sprinkler breaks, it can cause localized flooding and can be difficult to fix.

Drip systems are designed more for flower beds than lawns and put water directly at the base of the plants. The problem is, except for the main water pipe, these irrigation lines must stay above ground to keep from clogging with dirt. The tips are replaceable, but if the irrigation line gets a crack or a leak, fixing it requires a little skill.

All of these systems can be laid out, hooked up to a water faucet, and turned on manually. Doing so requires you to remember to turn it on and off. If you forget to shut off the irrigation system, your water bill could take a hard hit. If you go away for a few days, your flower beds could suffer miserably.

Using an automatic irrigation system eliminates the problems with manual operation. Computerized control of the flow, the amount of water, and the length of time the water is on, saves on maintenance because it eliminates excess pressure which can burst the lines. They can be set on multiple timers to water one section at a time, and can be set to run during the cool parts of the day when less water evaporates.

This type of system saves water, which can lower your water bill. It’s a great choice when you have a lot of flower beds or a large yard. Many quality landscapers and lawn services are able to install and maintain an automatic irrigation system to meet the needs of your landscape. With such a system, you can stop lugging hoses and start enjoying your flower beds.

Five things before purchasing a house

One of the main purchases you are going to make is buying a house. You have to think through all of your options before making the decision. Here are some of the things you need to know before you buy a house:

1) It is essential that you have good credit. You will most likely obtain a loan to buy a house. Thus, you should ensure that your credit is good for a smooth sailing application. It would be better to check your credit history frequently for your own security as well.

2) Prepare for long-term debts. Keep in mind that it will take years before you will be able to pay for the house completely. Ensure that you will be able to manage payment for the mortgage. Having a financial cushion is significant. Since the debt is long-term, anything can occur.

3) Most loans need a document from the appraiser so it is better to get their opinion when you see a potential house. The appraisers are experts in giving values to properties depending on the location, structure, features, and added extras to the house. This will stop any sales representative from over pricing the house.

4) It is very attractive to buy a beautiful house at a very cheap price. Before you decide on purchasing the beautiful house, ensure that it has a safe environment. Take note that one of the factors that make a house costly is good location. If you think that the price is much cheaper than it looks, the locations may not be that attractive. Ask the appraiser why the value is low. It could be that the neighborhood is not safe. These factors are very important in your decision-making.

5) Make sure that the house you choose suits your lifestyle. No matter how beautiful the house is, if it does not coincide with your behavior, you will not be comfortable in it. When you choose a house, make sure that it makes you feel at ease.

Your financial state is most important when planning to a buy a house. This makes it essential to monitor your credit on a regular basis. Finally, you have to learn as much as you can about the home before purchasing it.

Teach your children the value of a loonie

(NC)-Young children are fascinated by money. What can I get with this nickel? What’s a loonie? Teaching your children the value of money is part of your job as a parent, but knowing where to start can be intimidating.

“Financial literacy is an essential life skill that children need to learn to be successful adults,” says Raymond Chun, a senior vice president at TD Canada Trust. “It is never too early for your kids to start learning the value of a dollar.”

Chun offers his advice on how to teach young children the value of a loonie:

• What is it? Start by introducing your children to all the coins, including their names, colors and values. Once they master the basics, you can help your child understand the monetary system and practice their math by counting out how many pennies or dimes are in a loonie.

• What can you buy for it? Set up a play grocery store with their toys or take your child to the store to show them what they can buy with one, five and 10 loonies to give them a visual understanding of its value. Depending on their age, you could also use this as an opportunity to explain how a bag of rice can feed a small family for a week, yet it costs the same as a bag of candy.

• How do you get more Loonies? It’s important children learn from a young age that money comes from hard work and saving. Consider linking their allowance to age-appropriate chores, like making their bed or putting away their toys, and help them choose a treat that they can start saving for.

Power tool shopping for the man who has it all

Every year, women spend countless hours trying to come up with creative gift ideas for their fathers, husbands, and brothers, but it is always the same story – men are hard to buy for. Here’s a little tip to help you with your shopping: Studies show that after personal responsibilities like car payments, repairs and gas, guys spend most of their dough on clothes, eating out, electronics and booze. What’s missing from this list is the ultimate guy present – power tools.

Husqvarna Canada, reported to be the world’s largest producer of outdoor power products, helps rev up your gift-giving this year with a list of the most in-demand power products for your man:

Leaf blowers: Truly the tool for the man who has it all, we are not talking about your father’s leaf blower. Modern varieties are ergonomically designed with lots of power for clearing leaves and debris. Plus, some double as a vacuum for lawn and garden.

Chainsaws: Millions of chainsaws are sold every year and millions of men drool over those millions of chainsaws every year. It doesn’t matter if he lives in a condo. He will be the envy of his neighbors, his friends, his brothers, his co-workers. Just get him one.

Snowblowers: Shoveling snow results in hundreds of thousands of injuries each year, and a snowblower might be just the answer. Plus, pretty soon he’ll be competing with the neighbors to see who gets to plow the little old lady’s driveway down the street.

Trimmers: Most homeowners have a trimmer for those hard-to-reach spots and for finishing touches, but it is amazing the difference quality makes. When purchasing a trimmer, look for something that’s light and comfortable, easy-to-start, and high-powered with rapid acceleration.

Lawnmowers: Many mowers are hand-me-downs, but at some point, it’s time to invest in the real deal. Whether that’s an eco-friendly manual, a tailor-made push mower, or the big kahuna – a rider – new models are better for your lawn and gentler on the environment.
